Mayor of Taoyuan appeals to the public to take the hearing health as seriously as vision health. Take good care of ears will lead you to excellent hearing and brilliant eyesight at old age. PSA hearing aid bank has collaborated with Department of Social Welfare of Taoyuan City to upgrade the location service.
(April 15th, Taoyuan) PSA Foundation collaborated with Taoyuan City Government to establish Taoyuan Hearing Aid Bank last year (2021) to provide the senior residents the “peaceful life with hearing clarity” hearing care service at Taoyuan locations, as part of Taoyuan City innovative five safety service[1]. It served 459 city residents during the Covid-19 alert period last year. The number of cases served demonstrates the high demand for hearing care and hearing aid related service of Taoyuan residents and elderly. There are more than 310,000 senior residents over the age of 65 in Taoyuan City. Conducted by PSA Foundation, the survey of disabling hearing loss shows that 40.5% of elderly population over the age of 65 suffered from serious hearing problem in Taiwan. According to this statistic, there are approximately 120,000 seniors over the age of 65 in Taoyuan City who suffers from disabling hearing loss and requires our immediate attention.
In order to care for the elderly health and increase the accessibility of welfare measures, Taoyuan City Government continues to establish community locations for hearing care. The government has helped upgrade 90% of the locations into long-term care service stations. It combined the resources of public and private sectors to provide each community location with course and service resource.
For the hearing health and care of Taoyuan residents, PSA Foundation collaborated with the Department of Social Welfare, Taoyuan City to establish Taoyuan City Hearing Aid Bank at Bade Disabled Welfare Service Center. The bank provides the service of hearing device consultation, try-outs, device leasing, and community outreach. Through the mobile hearing screening, the bank also provides the health seminars and hearing screening at the community locations. For those who have not passed the screening, the bank conducts follow-up consultation and provides proper information and resources for the hearing-impaired to encourage them to actively taking care of their hearing problems. Director of PSA Taoyuan Hearing Aid Bank, Lin Song Yue, said: “PSA Taoyuan hearing aid bank continues to provide the service this year and collaborates with ICOPE (Integrated Care for Older People) of the Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare—including Taoyuan district community health promotion center and five district teaching hospitals—to combine multiple hearing health resources to provide one-stop service for the elderly. It is anticipated to realize the goals of aging locally, aging safely, aging healthily, and aging actively.
Mayor of Taoyuan, Cheng Wen Tsan, attended the promotion of community healthcare location innovative service at Bade District Guangde Community Center to perform the renaming ceremony today. Mayor Cheng mentioned the resident hearing care and consultation service provided by PSA Taoyuan Hearing Aid Bank in his talk. The mobile hearing screening has toured the city to conduct hearing screening for the elderly and appealed to them to take care of their ears as much as their eyes. [PSA Charitable Foundation] In hopes of giving back to the society and integrating and maximizing social resources, PSA business group, including Passive System Alliance, HannStar Board Corporation, and Walton Advanced Engineering, has cooperated to establish a new foundation in 2002 and officially changed its name to PSA Charitable Foundation.
